7 Ways To Cure Bad Breath / Halitosis
Today I thought it was worth discussing a condition that affects millions of people – halitosis (bad breath). This can be hugely embarrassing, particularly when you don’t realise that your breath smells until someone points it out, so it is worth doing everything you can to keep your breath smelling fresh all day long.
So with that in mind, I thought I would list 7 things that you can do to cure bad breath:
1. Brush and floss your teeth regularly
One of the most obvious things you should do is to brush your teeth at least twice a day – once in the morning and once before bedtime. You can also brush your teeth after meals if you have a really bad case of halitosis. It is also important that you floss regularly as well to remove food particles and plaque.
2. Use a good quality mouthwash
After brushing your teeth, it is also a good idea to use a good quality mouthwash because this can not only help reduce plaque, but it can also freshen your breath for up to 12 hours in some cases.
3. Visit your dentist every 6 months
It is always a good idea to see your dentist regularly because they will detect any problems that you may have, and they (or the hygienist) will also give your teeth a good clean, which will reduce the chances of you developing bad breath in the future.
4. Chew mints or mint-flavoured gum
Larry David jokingly boasts about his fresh breath in Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the reason why his breath always smells nice is because he always carries some mints around with him. Although this is a comedy show, this is indeed a great way of maintaining fresh breath throughout the day.
5. Drink green tea every day
Green tea has a huge number of health benefits, as you may already know, and it has recently been discovered that the antioxidants in green tea help to destroy the compounds in the mouth that cause bad breath.
6. Load up on vitamin C
Vitamin C can help to overcome gingivitus and gum disease, one of the possible causes of bad breath, so drinking fruit juice and eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C may well help.
7. Quit smoking
If you smoke regularly, then it is pretty pointless doing any of the above because your breath will still smell quite bad. So this is one more reason why you should consider giving up smoking altogether.
